RMB LATITUDES ART FAIR 2024: KÉBÉ, BENIGNO MANGOVO & OSVALDO FERREIRA

THIS IS NOT A WHITE CUBE will be at the 2024 edition of the RMB Latitudes Art Fair in Johannesburg, with works by Benigno Mangovo, Kébé & Osvaldo Ferreira.

The fair has been carefully organised to offer a pan-African showcase of talent. Galleries and artists from across the continent will be showing their work in Shepstone Gardens, a magnificent three-acre estate, and visitors will be invited to discover and explore every corner of the indoor-outdoor venue, enjoying a diverse programme of exhibitions, talks, films and performances. Keep an eye on the Fair Programme! See the works on show at our stand!

Born in Bamako, Kébé draws inspiration from the cultural and formal riches of the Korèdugaw, infusing his work with a deep connection to Mali's artistic heritage. Through his painted and sculpted pieces, he not only opens Mali's art to the 21st century but also roots it firmly in the country's civilizational base. His preference for recycling materials aligns with the practices of the Korèdugaw, highlighting his commitment to environmental concerns and contemporary urgencies.

In contrast, Osvaldo Ferreira's exploration delves into the everyday life of Angolan society, reflecting on intergenerational continuity and discontinuity in social experiences. Through vibrant paintings that echo the exuberant colors of African textile traditions, Ferreira emphasizes Africa's cultural and social heritage. His work serves as a poignant reminder of Africa's complex history of colonization, globalization, and cultural manipulation, while celebrating the resilience and beauty of its identity.

Completing this triad of artistic voices is Benigno Mangovo, hailing from an artistic family in Cabinda. Benigno's work invites viewers into a world of introspection, where personal experiences and emotions intersect to explore themes of memory, dreams, and human relationships. Through his introspective lens, Benigno offers a glimpse into the inner workings of the human psyche, inviting viewers to contemplate the universal experiences that bind us together.

In the dialogue between these artists, we witness a rich tapestry of cultural exploration, identity, and societal reflection.
